Exhibition New kids old attire, The blend of the traditional and urban from the children’s perspective

Children’s folklore section of the Ivan Goran Kovačić folklore ensemble
Authors:

This project has been created by children who spend their free time preserving the tradition through folklore, often putting on traditional costumes for specific occasions and needs (performances, presentations, kermesses, holidays, etc.). The photographs included in this exhibition place the tradition into current situations with the aim of shattering the stereotypes about the traditional costumes being a thing of the past, intended for old people, and that everything today should be urban and modern. The children are the ones who hold our future and by educating them through this project and exhibition, we are not only promoting our cultural heritage, but also inspiring younger generations to nurture their cultural tradition and learn more about it. Our intention for this project is to show that there is room for traditional costumes even in modern urban centers, and that we should continue to cherish them, as we are a country with a rich tradition. This could also inspire all modern artists to use the wealth of our cultural tradition in their contemporary cultural ambitions and expressions.
