Folk singers of the Ražanac Municipality

Folk Glagolitic singing has been preserved through history and times that warranted constant changes. The music is special in that it is not prescribed by scores, arrangements or rules, but based on the current abilities of the singers themselves. By participating in liturgy and devotion throughout the centuries, the folk singers created their own harmonies for their songs. This is the most obvious in some of the Dalmatian songs, the region in whose micro locations folk Glagolitic singing came to be. Almost every village, even the smallest ones, defines its identity through their specific songs. Folk singers of the Ražanac Municipality – the songs from “Radovin” group, “Fortuna” folklore group from Ražanac, and “Sv. Šime” folklore group from Rtina – display the beauty of this diversity. They are of the same faith and tradition, singing the same song, but the human heart interprets it in its own way, giving it the characteristics of the performer, area they come from and the moment in which it is performed. The program of the concert is envisioned as a cycle of life – from birth to the final passing – presented through songs. We will hear folk singing following all the segments of the liturgic year as it was performed by the people during their devotions.
