We rebuild heritage
The 32rd International Folklore Festival represents the folklore tradition of the villages of Croatian counties, folklore of Croatians from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the folklore of eight foreign countries. This year’s Smotra highlights the rebuilding of folk societies in Croatian villages that have been damaged in the war, and therefore its motto is “Renewing the Heritage”.
The reconstruction program includes ten hard-hit places that return to life after warfare:
Pridvorje, Vrlik, Kijevo, Polač, Lovinac, Slunj, Glina (with surrounding Croatian villages) Đeletovce, Korođ / Korogy (Hungarian minority) and Duboševica. Their inhabitants experienced the fate of displaced persons and then returnees.
This program will also include Croats from Srijem, from the village of Gibarac near Sida; expelled from their village, they now live in about forty places in Croatia and gather in Osijek in the “Gibarac Provincial Association”.
The Ethnologist and Folklorist Group sought to provide expert assistance to returnees in the rebuilding of their folklore societies as part of the social and cultural life that begins again.
In addition to performing at Returnees and Renovation Program, the exhibition “Traditional Culture and War: Reconstruction of Folklore Societies” is dedicated, showing video clips and expert debates.
