40TH INTERNATIONAL FOLKLORE FESTIVAL IN ZAGREB

19 – 23 July, 2006

40th International Folklore Festival will take place in Zagreb from 19 to 23 July 2006. We will mark this anniversary by a specially conceived festival programme, as well as by a series of accompanying events. The programme will sum up the past festivals: the choice of participants and programme will show the festival’s basic concept and its metamorphoses throughout forty years, putting special emphasis on the participants, as well as localities and contents which marked the 1st International Folklore Festival.

All participants, both Croatian and foreign will display several shared topics in order to point to cultural similarities and differences. Some of these topics have been covered in previous Festivals (wedding and Carnival customs, dance and music traditions of the Mediterranean and central Europe, traditions of the ethnic minorities and children’s folklore).

The 40th International Folklore Festival will be accompanied by exhibitions, musical and dance workshops, concerts featuring church folk singing and world music, films, CD and DVD promotions.
